A Couple's Mission to Restore the Amazon Rainforest

We, Melvin and Karin, are a couple from the Netherlands and Sweden who have embarked on a journey to make a difference in the world. After witnessing the devastating effects of deforestation in the Amazon, we felt a strong urge to take action. We left our “comfortable” lives in the Netherlands and moved to Chazuta in the San Martin area of Peru, to create a positive impact on the environment. We asked our dear friend Peter to join us in taking action. Peter is originally from the Netherlands, but he has lived in Peru for many years.

TOGETHER WE MAKE A HANDS-ON AND STRONG TEAM.

After spending some time in Lima, where Peter lives, we traveled further to Tarapoto, a buzzing and hot city in the Amazon. We took the time to acclimate here and made many new friends and interesting connections. During this period, we took some very important steps towards our mission. We founded Amagreenzone together with Peter and found a strategic place to live. We decided to set up base in Chazuta, a small town situated in the mountains, stretching along the river banks of Huallaga. It’s the last civilized town before entering the Amazon rainforest, where local communities live in traditional ways. At first glance, you would think that Chazuta is a sleepy little town, but nothing is further from the truth. Its inhabitants are very proud of their town and surroundings; the energy here is amazing. Although it was not always easy to adapt, we fell in love with Chazuta’s little stone houses, astonishing nature, friendly people, the always-changing river Huallaga, the heat, the humidity, and the magic of rain. Basically, everything stops here when it’s raining; people stay in their houses and rest until it’s over, and it’s safe to come out again.

WE’RE CONVINCED THAT CHAZUTA IS THE PERFECT PLACE FOR US TO PURSUE OUR PROJECTS FOR SEVERAL REASONS.

Chazuta is home to a vibrant and engaged community that is deeply committed to their homeland. Through our social projects, we are working with local organizations and community leaders to educate people about sustainable agriculture, reforestation, and other environmentally friendly practices. This collaboration with the community ensures that the projects are locally driven and sustainable and that they have a positive impact on the people who live in the region.

It also provides an ideal location for reforestation and protection efforts because it has a relatively intact forest cover. This means that the reforestation projects that we undertake have a better chance of success, as the soil and other environmental factors are still conducive to the growth of new trees and vegetation.

AS WE LOOK OUT OVER THE LUSH GREEN CANOPY OF THE AMAZON RAINFOREST, WE KNOW THAT WE ARE EXACTLY WHERE WE ARE MEANT TO BE, AND WE WARMLY WELCOME YOU TO JOIN US ON THIS AMAZING ADVENTURE.
