Reforestation Campaign Chazuta Peru – Let’s save our planet

A BEAUTIFUL DAY

The collective Chazuta Chuya Chuya organized this great urban forestry activity.

Chuya Chuya is a group of Chazuta-based volunteers with good intentions. They are the driving force behind making the town greener and cleaner because they recognize the importance of environmental sustainability.

Of course, we at AmaGreenZone couldn’t pass up the opportunity to help plant trees in the area.

At 6 a.m. in the morning, people gathered at the port of Chazuta. This port used to be the gateway to the jungle. The last civilized village before the vast Amazon rainforest. From Chazuta you can basically sail to Europe.

This is the spot where the trees were planted.

The alarm went off early in the morning, and once at the port, everyone began to gather with their equipment and the trees.

 ROCK-HARD GROUND

When everyone arrived, we got to work. First, holes had to be dug, which proved challenging because of the rock-hard ground and many stones. So digging was hard labour for all of us. But with joined efforts, the holes swiftly grew larger and deeper.

Meanwhile, the interest of the residents was great, and the Mayor of Chazuta, Walter Sangama Saurín also came to roll up his sleeves.

Also, members of the municipality of Chazuta and Cima, another NGO, participated in the activity.

 TAKING ROOT

After about an hour, more than 30 people were already working. The workforce was diverse, with people of all ages hitting the ground. Soon, the first trees were planted.

We cleared the soil from stones and mixed it with compost so that the trees could take root quickly and easily. We are approaching the end of the rainy season, so now is the perfect time for the young trees to take root properly.

We placed a meter of bamboo next to the young tree. The inside of the bamboo is hollow, making it easy to give the trees water. To protect the trees, we put sticks around them and also shielded them with green nets. This way, the trees have the best chance to survive and grow big.

 CHACRA PASIKIWI CHAZUTA

Jorge Moreno, who appears in the photo above, is known locally as Coco. He is one of the driving forces behind Chazuta Chuya Chuya. Coco has worked tirelessly for many years to improve the lives of Chazuta residents. He is highly regarded, and everyone in the town knows him.

Coco and his wife Emma (Emma is from Sweden, just like Karin) own Chacra Pasikiwi, an agroforestry farm where visitors may take a guided tour and learn about the numerous plants that grow in the Amazon rainforest. You can also learn how to make chocolate and see how bees are kept for honey. Furthermore, you can enjoy wonderful drinks and food. When the season is right, they sell a special ice cream produced from the juice of raw cacao beans. I promise that you’ve never tasted anything like this before. It’s a fantastic flavor.

They sell a variety of local products at their shop. In short, it’s a must-see if you visit Chazuta.

As the morning proceeded, the area filled up with enthusiastic volunteers. Each hole had several people working on it. It was entertaining, and the interest was fantastic. There was a lot of talking among us, covering a wide range of topics. So it was also a great opportunity to socialize.

Time flew by, as it always does in the jungle. By early afternoon it was time for a drink and a delicious sandwich. After those energy levels were recharged, some people continued for a while and others had obligations and had to go. It was a beautiful day and a day like this shows that with united forces very nice things can be done.

Chazuta has become a bit greener, and that will do Mother Earth good.

Thanks everyone for this beautiful day!
